Is this the India of our dreams?

Yesterday, Punjab exploded in a rage of protests as followers of Dera Sacha Sauda, a cult with a following large enough to help the Congress win 15-20 seats during the February Assembly elections, clashed with members of various Sikh groups for the second consecutive day.

The violence, with its infectious mix of caste, religion and politics, soon swept across large swathes of the state, joining large towns like Bathinda, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana in one uncontrollable upsurge.

Later in the day it had spilled over to Jammu and parts of Rajasthan, forcing the Punjab government to get into a huddle and think of urgent measures to handle a situation that was clearly out of control.

It all began when the Sirsa-based Dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh appeared at a public function on Saturday dressed as Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh guru. All hell broke loose after that. Sikh organisations almost immediately formed counter-attack groups and burnt effigies of Rahim Singh which only instigated his supporters to go on a rampage, attacking and razing everything.

What is this rubbish?
Is this the India of our dreams?
Weren't we better humans before independence?
Every now and then, a new news coming out, related to violence, attacks, clashes, upsurges. We are "made" so busy among these that we're never willing to look on the major issues of the country.
Dirty Politics again raising head, politicians using the common man for his/her own benefits.
This is all done to distract the common people from major issues like unemployment, lack of infrastructural facilities, use of government funds for own purposes.

When are we going to wake up and make our country a dream country?

Can you people suggest something?

Hi Aditi! !
Is this the India of our dream?

I don’t know your country. I have few wonderful friends from India and I think that India is beautiful country with beautiful, great people. My dream is to go to the India someday. But probably this dream not come true. But who knows?
About your post I can only say - nothing surprises me today.. Especially with political issues.
Peace be with you and Peace to your wonderful country. This is my wish.

Hello, Aditi. Thank you for visiting my blog.
It's very sad about bad politics and fighting. I agree with Pankaj, politics are filled with selfish, controlling people in every country.

The India of my dreams is a place where many religions live together in peace. There are kind people, beautiful scenery, good food, no poverty, and much spirituality. ...it's a dream. :)

Well..
Have followed this news pretty closely,
Congress is a major hand at giving Dera Sachcha Sauda such power thruout Punjab..Because it's d govt in d centre..What i fail to understand thou is why such trivial issues irk the people so much that they go on rampage destroying the police forces' resources amongst other things and disturbing the harmony of the state..

I guess for a start let's dissolve the entire thing about having different parties around!!
dats gives rise to a lot of crap!! all such parties shud be deemed illegal amounting to legal action... adn hand this over to teh army.... dey r quick in their action!!
have parties on the lines of US or UK, tory/labour or Replublic/Congress, I guess dat wud help a lot!!

How often you have felt proud when we have done amazingly good... Howe often you feel proud when their is an independence day...how often you have loved your flag... how often you have just had a good discussion with a child picking up rags.... Look at their dreams .... Try to find out whats their aspirations...try to contribute to it.. You will find adding something to your country .... I remember what we always preach..." Vasudev Kutumbakum".... Try to carry rtesponsibilty on you shoulders... we will then only be able to bulit india of our dreams.... Feeling dejected about whats happenong wrong is not showing concern.... working on your own way is what makes a difference.... thanks for showing concern now lets take another step...

I am totally with you, except for one point. Indians before independence and after independence .
Before Independence, all of India (or atleast a vast majority of it) was united against one common enemy(Britishers) under one common leader (Gandhi). Today, we lack the one common enemy and more importantly we lack the one common leader. The people whom we look upon to lead us , sooner or later, turn their faces away from the responsibilities and give in to the temptation and lust of power. India Today, covered an article on new generation of political leaders in India (about a year back, I think). You would be happy to see so many youngsters taking up politics and coming up with bright and practical ideas for improving the face of modern India. But how long before they too give in to the temptation or are derailed from their motives by more ambitious and corrupt politicians .. we will never know. But , We still have hope. And as long as we cling on to it, we can do wonders. :)
If we totally give up, assuming that nothing can and will be done .. then really, nothing will be done. We hope and we do our bit by doing whatever we can to make India better. Rishi has some very nice points about what we can do and its really nice to read such thoughts !!
Its time to stop waiting for someone else to do the cleaning job , and pick up the broom ourselves and do it .. !!

I use to fear a lot these days, thinking of our future. Some recent incidences like Punjab clash then Hydrabad and Gorakhpur Bomb blast, will lead to series of communal roits.. Hindu -muslim issue has become so sensible that a single light can burn the whole world..
we can just hope, the world will soon be better place ...

Take care..

well i guess emotion plays a very important roles in our lives and the politicians are always ready to capitalise it .... also the fact that we are so densely poplulated we can easily gather a couple of thousands for any kind of uprising ...

the richard gere kaand and the prince that fell into the gutter ....such instances really shows our immaturity towards events

Everything Just so rightly said Aditi, except that question you ask in the end that I dont think I agree with the point it puts forth. Only, if our suggestions here could make a difference to those in power. To the Police/Military force who by themselves indulge in fake encounters for promotions. Who let off for little greenery in their pockets, anyone who has snatched away someone's mother/father, brother/sister, husband/wife of somebody. To those who call themselves ministers and what they do is trafficking humans illegally. to those VIPs who don't pay challans, taxes, bills, and to those also who have multi-crore scams named on their part and still breathe as easy as anyone does. Or maybe,in better airs !

I wish our suggestions could do us any good!
